Humberside Police are appealing for information and CCTV footage after new historical display boards at the Hornsea Viaduct were defaced with paint and scratched with a sharp implement.
Humberside Police have launched an investigation following a report of criminal damage at the Hornsea Viaduct.
The incident, which targeted newly installed display boards featuring historical images of the East Riding town, took place overnight.
Officers believe the vandalism occurred between the evening of Sunday the 21st of June and the morning of Monday the 22nd of June.
According to the police, the perpetrators approached the viaduct and used both pink and black paint to deface the new displays.
In addition to the paint, the authorities state that the offenders used a sharp implement to scratch along the entire length of the boards.
This action has caused significant damage to the historic pictures which were put in place for the community.
Humberside Police for the East Riding of Yorkshire North area have issued a statement appealing to the public for assistance in tracking down those responsible.
A spokesperson for Humberside Police said:
"If you have any CCTV footage (including video doorbell), saw anyone acting suspiciously in the area around this time or have any information about the offender/s please contact the police on the non-emergency number 101 quoting occurrence ref: #26000086310."
Residents in the vicinity of the Hornsea Viaduct are being urged to check their home security systems for any relevant footage.
Officers are particularly interested in any video doorbell recordings that could assist them in identifying the individuals involved in the criminal damage.
Anyone who may have witnessed suspicious behaviour in the area during the specified timeframe is encouraged to come forward and assist with the ongoing investigation.
