Whitby Hidden Impairments Support and Help is offering more than 25 holiday sessions this summer as part of the FEAST programme to keep children active and well-fed.
A Whitby charity has announced an exciting summer of activities as part of the FEAST programme, offering local children and young people the opportunity to have fun, build confidence, and create lasting memories during the school holidays.
Whitby Hidden Impairments Support and Help, known as WHISH, will host more than 25 FEAST sessions throughout the summer break. The programme provides a wide range of enriching experiences designed to keep children active, engaged, and connected while they are away from the classroom.
Young people attending the sessions can look forward to a variety of exciting adventures. The planned activities include visits to the East Barnby Outdoor Education Centre, boat trips, creative activities, games, and sports.
Organisers say the summer programme has been carefully designed to offer something for everyone. The initiative aims to help children discover new interests, develop their skills, and make new friends in a safe and supportive environment.
Alongside the activities, every child attending will receive a healthy meal and nutritious snacks throughout the day. This provision ensures participants have the energy to fully engage in the sessions while also supporting their overall health and wellbeing.
FEAST is a Holiday Activities and Food programme coordinated by North Yorkshire Together and funded by the Department for Education. The initiative provides enriching holiday activities and healthy meals during the Easter, Summer, and Christmas school holidays.
Free places are available for children and young people who receive benefits-related free school meals, though the activities are open to all families across North Yorkshire. Eligible families receive booking vouchers directly through their child’s school.
The FEAST programme plays a vital role in supporting families during the school holidays. It aims to reduce food insecurity, encourage physical activity, and help children stay socially connected outside of term time.
A spokesperson for WHISH said:
"We are incredibly proud to be part of the FEAST programme and to offer over 25 sessions this summer for local children and young people. From outdoor adventures and boat trips to creative activities and games, there is something for everyone to enjoy. Most importantly, we are creating opportunities for children to have fun, make friends and enjoy healthy meals in a safe and welcoming environment."
WHISH states that it is committed to ensuring every child has access to positive experiences and opportunities to thrive. Through the FEAST initiative, the charity continues to support families and create inclusive activities that make school holidays memorable for all participants.
In addition to the FEAST programme, WHISH hosts holiday clubs and other activities throughout the year. Families seeking more information can contact the charity directly by emailing whishgroup@gmail.com or by calling 07534 117458.
