The newly established Whitby Town FC Community Trust has donated £750 to help twenty-three Whitby School students take part in a four-week sustainable development expedition to Cambodia.
The newly established Whitby Town FC Community Trust has made its very first investment into the local community.
The organisation is providing a £750 donation to help Whitby School students take part in a life-changing overseas expedition.
The funding will support a group of twenty-three Whitby School students who are currently preparing to travel to Cambodia on a four-week expedition, which has been organised by Camps International.
The educational trip faced uncertainty after unexpected changes to travel arrangements resulted in additional costs, a situation that placed the entire project at risk.
The financial donation follows a firm commitment made by the football club during its Centenary Dinner.
During that event, the club pledged to reinvest funds into local causes through the charity arm of the organisation.
During the upcoming expedition, the students will work directly alongside local Cambodian communities on various sustainable development projects.
These international projects are specifically aimed at improving local facilities and supporting long-term initiatives in the area.
The four-week programme will also include a range of cultural and educational visits.
These visits are designed to broaden the participants’ understanding of Cambodia’s history and their traditional way of life.
As part of the overall experience, the students will also complete a PADI diving qualification.
This aquatic training is intended to help the young people develop new skills and build their personal confidence while exploring the country’s marine environment.
Graeme Hinchliffe, a representative for Whitby Town, stated that the donation reflected the core aims of the newly formed Community Trust.
Graeme Hinchliffe said:
"At our Centenary Dinner, we made a commitment that the club would continue to strengthen its connection with the community by investing in local people and worthwhile causes. We are delighted that the first contribution from the Whitby Town FC Community Trust will help these young people take part in what promises to be an incredible and life-changing experience."
He added that supporting opportunities which help young people develop skills, broaden their horizons, and make a positive impact was central to the Trust’s overall mission.
The £750 donation marks the official beginning of the Trust’s work to support projects and initiatives across Whitby and the surrounding area.
Moving forward, the football club is aiming to create a lasting community legacy that extends far beyond football.
