More than 650 veterans and service members have been honoured at a modern history museum in Malton during a day of remembrance and celebration.
Veterans and military organisations from across the United Kingdom were brought together for a major commemorative event in North Yorkshire.
More than 650 former military personnel and service members united at Eden Camp in Malton on Sunday, September 13th, for the All Services Parade.
The day was dedicated to remembrance, respect, and the celebration of service, allowing attendees to reflect on the sacrifices made by armed forces personnel.
Doors to the modern history museum opened early at 10am, with organisers ensuring that those who have served, or continue to serve, could attend freely.
Complimentary admission was extended to serving members of His Majesty’s Armed Forces, as well as all veterans and emergency services personnel.
The gesture of free entry also included civilian organisations that support His Majesty's Forces, members of the Royal British Legion, and representatives from numerous other military veterans’ associations and charities.
The focal point of the commemorative day began in the afternoon, as the All Services Parade officially stepped off at 2.25pm.
Musical accompaniment was provided by the Yorkshire Volunteers Marching Band, who set the pace for the procession.
Following the band were the military standards, proudly carried ahead of the large contingent of veterans and cadet forces.
The parade route covered a distance of 250 metres, carefully planned over a flat concrete and tarmac surface to accommodate all participants.
Upon completion of the march, the crowds gathered for a solemn Service of Remembrance to pay their respects.
In a traditional mark of respect, the standards were dipped as the notes of the Last Post rang out across the museum grounds.
A poignant minute’s silence was then strictly observed by the hundreds in attendance, serving as a silent tribute in honour of those who have given their lives in service.
Museum Manager at Eden Camp, Nick Hill, reflected on the significance of the large gathering.
He said:
"The All Services Parade was a fitting opportunity to come together to reflect and remember those who have served and made the ultimate sacrifice, while also recognising and celebrating the contribution of those who continue to serve our control. It was a privilege to see so many people united in remembrance and respect."
The successful parade reflects the wider educational and commemorative role of Eden Camp within the region.
As a modern history museum, the venue is dedicated to preserving historical narratives and sharing the firsthand stories and experiences of those directly affected by conflict.
Through a continuing programme of exhibitions and special events like the All Services Parade, the museum provides a space for the public to engage with the past.
Organisers say that by hosting such large-scale gatherings, visitors can continue to learn about the vital military experiences that have shaped the nation's history.
