The Aurora was visible to the naked eye for much of yesterday evening, right along the Yorkshire Coast.
One local photographger gave This Is The Coast permission to use his unique drone shot of the Northern Lights creating a stunning backdrop to Scarborough's street lights.
Eastfield can be seen in the foregound with Scarborough's castle headland in the background. Oliver's Mount is also visible.
This Is The Coast also captured this image on a phone camera in Whitby at around 11:00pm

Aurora facebook groups were buzzing with excitement yesterday and many went out in the hope of seeing the Aurora, some for the first time.
The display was so good, it could be seeing with the naked eye, albeit not so vividly as it appears on camera.
That's because human eyes are less good at picking out the colours in low light.
The Northern Lights, or Aurora Borealis, are caused by particles from the sun connecting with earth's magnetic field, channelled towards the poles, hence displays being generally better the further north, or south you are.
