The opening of the Scarborough Community Diagnostics Centre has been delayed indefinitely due to additional commissioning work required on its water and ventilation systems.
THE opening of a medical centre in North Yorkshire has been delayed with no date set for when services will start to be provided.
When it opens, Scarborough Community Diagnostics Centre (CDC), in Eastfield, will provide tests and scans such as ultrasound, X-ray, MRI and CT, as well as offer recovery spaces.
It was expected to become fully functional by March and health minister Karin Smyth previously said that from April, it was to offer at least one diagnostic service for 12 hours a day, seven days a week.
However, the York and Scarborough Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust said the opening of the facility had been delayed due to additional commissioning work on water and ventilation systems that “must be completed before the building can open”.
The health trust said it remained committed to opening a high-quality facility “as soon as possible”.
The 1,480 sqm Community Diagnostics Centre (CDC) at Scarborough Business Park in Eastfield will provide ultrasound, X-ray, MRI, CT, and cardiorespiratory facilities for assessment and diagnosis of patients, along with the associated recovery and support spaces.
A spokesperson for York and Scarborough NHS Trust said:
“The opening of the Scarborough Community Diagnostic Centre has been delayed due to additional commissioning work on water and ventilation systems that must be completed before the building can open. These are routine assurance processes carried out before new healthcare facilities become operational.”
Speaking to the Local Democracy Reporting Service (LDRS), they added:
“We remain committed to opening a high-quality facility for the Scarborough community as soon as possible, and work is progressing well to complete the final commissioning programme.
“In the meantime, diagnostic services are continuing through existing arrangements to minimise disruption for patients.”
The CDC programme was launched under the Conservative Government and Scarborough’s CDC was originally proposed to “open in the town centre near Scarborough train station in December 2023 and offer 91,000 additional checks a year once fully operational”.
The Scarborough Gateway Community Diagnostic Centre (CDC) has been delivering diagnostic activity since October 2023 from a temporary location at Bridlington Hospital.
