A Vehicle Activated Sign could be installed in Whitby to try and slow down speeding motorists on some the town's main routes.
The sign would initially be installed on Ruswarp Lane but could then be moved to different locations every few months.
County Councillor Phil Trumper says the speed activated sign could be useful across the town.
concerns have been raised by residents about road safety on the B1416, which is variously Ruswarp Lane, Ruswarp Bank and High Street between the junction with the A171 and the crossing of the River Esk.
A draft agreement has been drawn up between the County Council and Town Council for the installation of a VAS sign with the county funding the installation costs and the Town Council taking on the insurance and electricity costs.
The town council would need to come up with a plan as to how the sign would be rotated between sites every few months.
Town Councillor Glenn Goodbury would like to see it used on Stakesby Road
