Businesses on the Yorkshire Coast are being encouraged to donate one percent of their profits to a new local charity foundation.
The Scarborough based Fortus accountancy group have launched a new foundation that aims to give small Yorkshire charities a much simplified way of applying for grant funding.
Matty Lewis from the Fortus Foundation says the "Go Give One" appeal will also simplify the process for the businesses involved.
Matty says the idea is to make grant applications simpler for volunteer led groups.
The foundation says it's research shows that there are 180,000 registered charities in the UK but "60% of all donations go to just 500 of them".
Matty says the grant fund will be open to local charities, community groups and volunteer led organizations with grants being issued four times a year.
Fortus are an accountancy and business advice firm with offices across Yorkshire. The firm will be covering the operating costs of the new foundation by donating one percent of it's turnover to the cause. Matty says individual staff members have also got involved by donating some of their salaries.
The foundation is now asking local business to get involved in the foundation by committing to donate one percent of their profits but Matty says there may be other ways that like minded business can help out.
