A £280k scheme is going to see new changing places toilets installed in the Scarborough Borough.
Members of the authority’s cabinet voted unanimously in favour of the plan to increase the number of changing places toilets at a meeting on Tuesday.
The new facilities will be installed in Filey, Whitby and in Scarborough's North Bay.
Harry Briggs is the council's head of operations he explains what the facilities will include.
The new accessible changing places toilets are being installed as part of an ongoing revamp of the area's public conveniences.
Councillor Tony Randerson says the £280k project will build on the recent refurbishment of a number of local toilet blocks.
Councillor Randerson says there will be three new Changing Places facilities one of which will be in Whitby.
Filey will also get a new facility
The third will be built in Scarborough's North Bay
The locations have been chosen as the lack of suitable facilities nearby “currently acts as a significant barrier for changing places toilet users”.
Scarborough Borough Council will allocate £120,000 of funding for the project while £160,000 will come from a Government grant.
The cabinet also approved an exemption to the council’s contract procedure rules to allow the authority to procure the works required within this financial year.
The council has obtained a quote for the delivery of the Scarborough and Filey facilities from a local contractor which amounts to £144,000. For the Whitby scheme, the authority is proposing to purchase a modular building from Danfo for circa £57,000.
