A man in his thirties has died following a collision between a motorcycle and a car on the A171 near Fylingdales, prompting a police appeal for witnesses and dashcam footage.
A motorcyclist from the Whitby area has died following a fatal collision on the A171.
The incident, which involved a black Volvo XC40 and a black and white Triumph Daytona motorcycle, occurred near Helwath Beck in the Fylingdales area between Whitby and Scarborough.
Emergency services were called to the scene at around 6:05 pm on the evening of Tuesday, September 15th.
North Yorkshire Police confirmed that both vehicles were travelling in the same direction towards Scarborough when the collision happened.
The rider of the motorcycle, a man aged in his thirties, suffered fatal injuries and sadly died at the scene of the crash.
The driver of the Volvo, a woman in her forties, sustained slight injuries during the incident but did not require hospital treatment. Police officers confirmed she has been interviewed under caution in relation to the collision.
Following the crash, the A171 was closed for several hours to allow emergency service personnel to work safely at the location. The closure also enabled collision investigators to conduct a thorough examination of the scene and safely recover both vehicles.
The route was eventually reopened to traffic at 2:00 am on Wednesday, September 16th.
Investigating officers are now urging anyone with information about the incident to come forward to assist with their enquiries.
A spokesperson for North Yorkshire Police said:
"We are appealing to witnesses who have not yet spoken to the police who saw either of the vehicles travelling along the A171 prior to the collision, or who witnessed the collision to come forward along with anyone who may have caught either vehicle on their dashcam before or during the collision."
The force also expressed gratitude to the members of the public who stopped at the scene to offer help in the immediate aftermath of the crash.
