Improving Whitby's park and ride and introducing a permit parking scheme in the town are some of the issues highlighted by candidates vying to become North Yorkshire's first elected Mayor.
In a week's time North Yorkshire residents will be voting for the county's first ever elected mayor.
The Mayor will oversee a new combined authority for York and North Yorkshire and will receive devolved powers and funding from central government.
Four of the six candidates took part in a hustings event in Whitby where they were asked about the town's transport needs.
Kevin Foster is the Green Party Candidate he thinks Whitby would benefit from a second park and ride site.
Keith Tordoff is standing as an independent candidate, he says Whitby needs a bespoke solution.
Paul Haslam is standing as an independent candidate he favours introducing a permit scheme to ensure Whitby residents can park in the town.
Felicity Cunliffe-Lister is the Liberal Democrats candidate, she says persuading visitors to leave the car at home would be one of her aims.
There are six candidates standing for election they are:
- Felicity Cunliffe-Lister for the Liberal Democrats
- Keane Duncan for the Conservatives
- Kevin Foster for the Green Party
- Paul Haslam as an Independent
- David Skaith for the Labour Party
- Keith Tordoff as an Independent.
All six candidates had been invited to take part in the Whitby hustings which were organised by Whitby Community Network. Two of the candidates were unable to take part. We have since offered both those candidates the opportunity to record interviews on the topics covered at the Whitby hustings event but neither have responded to our approaches.
