It's been a momentous year for Scalby Fair.
The new Classic Car event was a big hit with 2026's version already being planned by chairman Nigel Foster.
The fair's publicity officer is Michael Whiteley:
"We had around 200 walkers. We raised lots of money for the main charity. This year's Futureworks, but we also raised some money for Scalby & Newby Library and Scarborough Mates, as well, who help us run the walk. Yeah, and that was a lovely day and a lovely session afterwards. And yeah, great support also of people who come and watch as well as walk and yeah, really great loads of fantastic fancy dress.
We had 70 volunteers working on the day and lots of traffic arrangements to sort out. But yeah, it was a fantastic day. The weather held off just a tiny bit of rain early in the afternoon, but we got lots of people, fantastic feedback from the people that came and the stall holders and in fact, the whole week starting from the ceilidh right through to the fair day and then the flower festival."
Michael says the fair's newest event was a big hit:
" We had a new event this year. We had the classic car rally, which went down really well. We met at the rugby club and then a drive through to the church rooms where people could come and look at these really fantastic old cars. I think that's only going to be bigger and better next year, such was the feedback.
"So yeah, it's just a wonderful event, but it keeps evolving. We're just looking again this year about how we can be in slightly different areas of Scalby, just to make it even more inclusive and, yeah so all the food offerings get a good show. It's a lot of work, but it's a lot of fun to do the work.
"And the chair, Nigel Shepherd, he put so much work in, he's had an operation recently. He couldn't do much sales, so he was updating the event plan for the Scalby Fair for next year."
