Look Out For Signage Changes For Filey

A project's been launched to revamp signs in and around Filey.

Filey is set to see significant improvements to its local signage, with a project to update and potentially replace existing wayfinding infrastructure now back in motion.

The initiative aims to enhance the visitor experience and improve general navigation around the town.

Filey Town Councillor Wendy Fenlon confirmed that the project, which had previously stalled, has been "resurrected". This follows similar works that have already been completed in other coastal towns, including Scarborough and Whitby.

Councillor Fenlon detailed the collaborative approach being taken:

"Working with members of Filey Town Council, working with North Yorkshire Council, we've actually done a walk around of the area, looked at the signage that we've got, compared one of the original project scopes that was done by a consultant ".

"We're now waiting for North Yorkshire to come back with pricing and costs of either refurbishing what we've got and updating it because some of the signage is very out to date and in very poor condition, or replacing the signage, with new signage that's more appropriate for the town."

Additionally, Councillor Fenlon highlighted that "some of the signage for Filey isn't particularly good" for general wayfaring.

North Yorkshire Council is currently preparing pricing and costs for two potential approaches: either refurbishing the existing signage or replacing it entirely with new, more appropriate signage. This includes plans for "updating the general wayfaring for Filey".

Once North Yorkshire Council provides these details, they will be reviewed by the community partnership and Filey Town Council.

Councillor Fenlon emphasised a crucial next step, stating,

"Obviously we've got to secure some funding to be able to do that project. It will be quite a big project to do".
