RNLI Lifeguards were back on the Yorkshire Coast's beaches over the half term break but it's been a tough job finding enough people to fill the roles.
The RNLI service will continue to run at weekends in most locations and then through the School summer holidays.
Regional lifeguard lead - Carl Harris - says finding enough lifeguards has been challenging this year.
Carl Harris says they are still looking to fill a number of roles especially in Bridlington.
Weekend patrols will be taking place from 10am until 6pm at Cayton Bay, Filey, Redcar, Saltburn, Sandsend, Scarborough North Bay, Scarborough South Bay and Whitby beaches. On 2 July, these patrols will extend to Runswick Bay beach.
However, some beaches in the area are subject to closures:
- Cayton Bay and Sandsend beaches are operational only on weekends from 5 June until 2 July
- Redcar beach is operation only on weekends from 5 June until 15 July
The RNLI daily patrols will remain in place until 4 September.
2.5 million people visited the RNLI’s beaches in the North East and East last year and the charity is continuing to urge beachgoers to choose an RNLI lifeguarded beach this summer.
