The Labour Party have announced a two person shortlist for their mayoral candidate.
In May 2025 residents of Hull & East Yorkshire will go to the polls to vote for the region’s first directly elected mayor. The mayor will head the region’s soon to be establish Combined Authority.
The Conservatives and the Liberal Democrats have already announced their candidates for the election, with the leaders of both East Riding Council (Anne Handley – Conservative) and Hull City Council (Mike Ross – Lib Dem) confirming their names on the ballot.
The Labour Party have now released a two person shortlist for their candidate. Parish councillor Margaret Pinder will go up against Dr Dan Roper in a vote lasting from December 6 to 20.
Leader of the Labour Group at Hull City Council, and former Council leader, Cllr Daren Hale has endorsed Dr Roper, saying:
“I am pleased that our former PCT lead Dr Dan Roper has now agreed to stand as a candidate and I will be supporting him to be our Labour candidate. It is a democracy so the choice will be up to members. I do think Hull Members & Councillors have been listened to; so the members will get the final vote we wanted.”
Cllr Hale turned down the chance to be on the shortlist for the Labour candidate for the election.
