Scarborough's Town Centre Team says working more closely with York could provide a major boost for the resort.
Scarborough could make more of it's tourism venues by working more closely with the rest of North Yorkshire.
That's according to Scarborough's Town Centre Team.
The group of local Businesses have launched a consultation to get local views on the future of the town centre.
Toby Hyam, from the group, thinks there are benefits to be had from more collaboration across York and North Yorkshire.
Last month plans were announced for a bid to create a Local Visitor Economy Partnership (LVEP) to cover both York and North Yorkshire to maximise the potential of the tourism sector. LVEPs involve both the private and public sectors and will need to follow a new national process to be eligible for support and potential funding from the Government.
It is hoped that the joint bid involving North Yorkshire Council and the City of York Council will ensure that the greatest benefits are achieved for both York and North Yorkshire’s tourism industry.
The bid was submitted to the Visit England tourism organisation in September, A decision is then expected from a panel involving tourism officials and representatives from the Department for Culture, Media and Sport by the end of October.
Toby Hyam says the local government reorganisation that took place earlier this year is presenting opportunities.
Scarborough's Town Centre Team are lookign to reboot the town Centre Strategy which was devised in 2018 by the old borough council and the town centre team.
The Team is now being supported by Scarborough Business Ambassadors and has launched a consultation to get local views on the future of the town centre.
The new consultation can be completed online at https://this-is-scarborough-143242665.hubspotpagebuilder.eu/scarborough-town-centre-strategy-2023-document
