A half hourly train service between Scarborough and York is still being worked on and could be introduced with the winter timetable.
North Yorkshire County Council says discussions with the train operators are focused on introducing the service initially on Friday's, Saturdays and Mondays
Graham North is the county council's Policy Support Officer for Rail, he's hopeful that the increased frequency service will start to be delivered later this year.
It's hoped that the increased frequency of the Scarborough to York service from hourly to half hourly would increase the number of people using the line. In addition it's also expected that a new railway station on the outskirts of York could also bring benefits to Scarborough.
Plans are underway to build a new station at Haxby on the York to Scarborough line.
Graham North - says data shows that the new station could see more people using the line to Scarborough.
A report to county councillors says that
"The station will be the Strensall side of Haxby and should be open at the latest by the end of 2024"
The report also suggests that the line speed between York and Scarborough could also be improved, saying:
"Network Rail are also reviewing the speed trains can travel along the line to see if there are some quick win journey time improvements."
The report to councillors showed a decrease in passenger numbers at both Scarborough and Seamer stations since the pandemic.
