Firefighters had to be vigilant after a fire, near Scarborough, spread to a gas meter box.
It meant the officers had to keep a jet of water aimed at the gas pipe as they couldn't isolate any leaking gas.
The incident occurred around 8pm, on High Street, in Cloughton, on Saturday night.
Fire crews from Whitby and Robin Hood's Bay attended, they directed gas away from the property using a fan.
They eventually made the scene safe and left matters with the gas board.
