Three acres of land have been gifted to Fishburn Park Football Club in Whitby, securing its long-term future ahead of its eightieth anniversary.
The future of a long-standing Whitby community football club is now secure following the gift of three acres of land.
Fishburn Park Football Club will take full ownership of the site off Stainsacre Lane ahead of its eightieth anniversary celebrations next year.
The land has been used by the club for many years as a tenant, sitting adjacent to the twenty-four-acre Broomfields Farm development.
Ownership has been transferred by Keyland Developments, the property trading arm of Kelda Group and sister company to Yorkshire Water.
The donation follows the successful delivery of two housing development phases on neighbouring land, a process which the football club had actively supported.
Allan Burnett, President of Fishburn Park FC, said:
"Fishburn Park has been part of this community for generations and to have the security of our own land as we approach our 80th anniversary is something we are incredibly proud of. I don’t think any other club in town owns their own pitch, so this is fantastic for us. Keyland has worked with us throughout the development of the Broomfields Farm site and has always recognised that the football club is about more than just football. We provide a place for people to come together, for young people to play sport and for families to be part of something local. This is a fantastic gesture from Keyland and one that will make a real difference to the future of the club. We are very grateful and are looking forward to celebrating our 80th anniversary knowing that the club has a secure future."
The club provides vital football opportunities for players across a wide range of age groups, alongside dedicated men’s and women’s teams.
Discussions regarding the local land began in twenty-twenty when representatives first met to review residential plans for the initial phase of the Broomfields Farm site.
That first phase was subsequently sold to Barratt Homes in twenty-twenty-one and has since been completed.
Plans for the neighbouring site, formerly known as phase two, were later discussed with the club.
Forty-nine affordable, low-carbon homes are now being delivered on that second parcel of land, which was sold to Brierley Homes in February this year.
This second phase of development is supported by two point six million pounds of Government Towns funding, which was secured through the Whitby Town Deal Board.
Planning permission for up to two hundred and ninety homes across the wider former Yorkshire Water site, which connects Whitby and Scarborough, was granted by North Yorkshire Council.
Throughout the extensive planning process, club officials recognised the wider benefits that new housing and significant investment could bring to the local area.

They have been extremely supportive throughout the development process and have understood the benefits that bringing new homes and investment to the area can bring. Once the two phases of development had been successfully delivered, we felt it was important to give something back. We hope it gives Fishburn Park FC the security it needs for the future and helps it continue the work it does in the community for many years to come."
The property company has operated across Yorkshire for more than thirty years, focusing on regenerating redundant Yorkshire Water sites and bringing forward land for new uses.
The business also works with independent landowners, corporate entities, and regulated bodies to overcome obstacles to development on strategic sites and secure planning consent for future community use.
