A musical production that launched its run in Scarborough has been shortlisted for a major national theatre award.
A locally-directed musical production will compete for a major national prize at the upcoming UK Theatre Awards.
Calendar Girls the Musical has been officially shortlisted for the Best Musical Production accolade, which is sponsored by Tysers Live.
The much-loved show tells the story of a group of Yorkshire women who create a fabulous fundraising calendar following the death of one of their husbands. Written by Gary Barlow and Tim Firth, this particular staging marks the first-ever actor-musician version of the popular story.
The production launched its run at Scarborough’s Stephen Joseph Theatre in late June and was directed by the venue's Artistic Director, Paul Robinson.
It operates as a collaborative co-production involving the Scarborough theatre alongside Keswick’s Theatre by the Lake, the New Wolsey Theatre in Ipswich, and the Octagon Theatre Bolton.
Following its Scarborough debut, the show moved to Keswick throughout August. The production is currently playing at the New Wolsey Theatre before it transfers to the Octagon Theatre throughout October to conclude this leg of its journey.

The musical faces stiff competition at the upcoming awards ceremony, which will take place in London on Monday the 12th of October.
Three other nominees are competing in the same category. These include a National Theatre of Scotland and Dundee Rep Theatre co-production of The High Life, a Curve, Bristol Old Vic and Mayflower Southampton co-production of Kiss Of The Spiderwoman, and a Birmingham Rep production of Sweeney Todd The Demon Barber Of Fleet Street.
Since 1991, the annual UK Theatre Awards have celebrated creative excellence and outstanding work seen on and off stage throughout England, Scotland, Wales, and Northern Ireland.
