The 'Lois Ivan', number 13-49, arrived at 13:49 today, in warm temperatures and beautiful sunshine.
The new Shannon-class lifeboat is replacing the Trent-class lifeboat which has been saving lives at sea for nearly 30 years.
The Trent-class boat will stay in Whitby for a little longer as crew need to train on the new vessel.
Dozens of people watched from the piers as the new boat arrived after its long journey from Poole.
The two lifeboats are now berthed side by side, draped in marine code flags.

Here's some of the reaction to the arrival from social media:
Well that was much more emotional than I expected seeing the new Whitby lifeboat Lois Ivan come into the harbour, my dads name is on there as part of launch a memory, what a fab display the RNLI put on 👮🏻♂️💙 #whitbyrnli #loisivan #rnli #launchamemorylifeboat #whitby #dad pic.twitter.com/1QK0HDfqX9

Welcoming the new legacy lifeboat Lois Ivan into #Whitby. The Shannon is the latest class of all-weather lifeboat in the RNLI fleet. Having waterjet propulsion instead of traditional propellers makes the Shannon the RNLI’s most manoeuvrable all-weather lifeboat. Welcome 🤗 pic.twitter.com/BjW4freUD4
