Ongoing Monitoring and Safety Measures Remain in Place as Firefighters continue to tackle the Langdale Moor fire.
As the Langdale wildfire continues to pose challenges, North Yorkshire Fire and Rescue Service has issued an update, emphasising the importance of safety and compliance with ongoing restrictions in the affected areas.
Fire crews are actively monitoring the situation and managing flare-ups as they arise. A spokesperson from the fire service stated, “Please be aware that this is still an ongoing incident,” urging the public to remain vigilant and adhere to safety protocols.
Reports have surfaced regarding individuals entering closed-off active working areas, prompting officials to reiterate the necessity of these closures. “We know this guidance can be an inconvenience and we appreciate your ongoing support, but please help us and do not put yourself and our crews at risk,” the spokesperson added.
Key safety measures currently in effect include:
- Closure of May Beck and Falling Foss car parks in Sneaton Forest.
- Inaccessibility of certain parts of the Coast to Coast walk.
- Open roads on the A171 and B1416 between Whitby and Scarborough, with enforced 30mph speed limits.
- Closure of laybys to prevent onlookers from stopping to view the fire.
- Although smoke levels have decreased, residents may still detect its presence. The fire service advises those affected by smoke to keep doors and windows shut to minimize inhalation risks.
