Firefighters from Sherburn, Filey and Scarborough combined to tackle a fire at a property on Victoria Road.
North Yorkshire Fire and Rescue say several local crews attended a kitchen fire in a flat in Scarborough, just after 2am, on Saturday morning.
The blaze caused damage to oven and kitchen units, as well as extensive smoke damage throughout the flat. Two people were brought down from an outside ledge using an extended ladder.
They were handed over to paramedics but officers believe they did not require hospital treatment. Crews extinguished the fire and retrieved a number of animal cages. The cause is believed to be a build-up of fat or grease in the oven, catching fire, after the oven was left on. Crews used two hose reels, four breathing apparatus, two thermal-imaging cameras, alongside a ventilation fan and ladders.
Earlier in the night, officers from Scarborough had to deal with a fire on a building site, off the town's Gouldings Close. They believe it was started by youths.
