Filey Children Help Celebrate Kindness

Children from Filey Junior School have participated in the “Make an Elderly Person Smile” project, spearheaded by Filey Police

The initiative is part of Op Present, a dedicated effort aimed at supporting the elderly population during the challenging winter months.

The project has seen an array of heartwarming activities designed to bring joy to the elderly community. Participants have engaged in various acts of kindness, including:

  • Bringing farm animals into nursing homes, providing comfort and companionship.
  • Delivering beautiful flowers to brighten the days of local residents.
  • Selling their toys to raise funds for the initiative.
  • Volunteering at local coffee mornings to foster connections and support.

The impact of these endeavours has been profound, with smiles and gratitude from the elderly community highlighting the success of the project. A spokesperson for Filey Police noted, “The impact has been truly special, and the smiles say it all.”

In recognition of their efforts, the children from Filey Junior School were rewarded for their contributions, with prizes including family vouchers and a top prize of a three-night weekend getaway for the entire family. The selection process for winners was described as challenging, reflecting the high level of participation and creativity displayed by the students.

Local businesses played a crucial role in supporting this initiative, providing resources and encouragement that helped bring the project to life. A heartfelt thanks was extended to these businesses, acknowledging their generosity in making the project possible.

Filey Police added:

"We’re so proud of the incredible children at Filey Junior School who took part in our “Make an Elderly Person Smile” project.

Together, through Op Present, we’ve shown that small acts of kindness can make a big difference."
