The seal was dragging over 7ft of rope and other material.
The rescue took place yesterday when volunteers from the British Diver's Marine Life Rescue service were able to reach the young grey seal at Danes Dyke.
The seal was dragging over 7ft of entanglement material. BDMLR Marine Mammal Medics were able to help the seal, removing the entanglement, and uplifted him for veterinary care and care.
the BDMLR medics said:
"The pup quickly transformed from exhausted and limp during rescue, to a much brighter animal now with a good chance of survival, recovering from terrible injuries. Once stable he will transfer to a rehabilitation centre.
The seal is a "known" animal, previously being reported to BDMLR by the Yorkshire Wildlife Trust a few weeks before, carrying its entanglement amongst the seal colony where rescues are extremely difficult.
Quick action from members of public meant the right place & time has allowed this pup to be saved."
