English Channel Charity Swim at North Yorkshire Water Park Tonight

A team of fundraisers will be swimming the English channel tonight but at North Yorkshire Water Park.

It's the final part of the Dawnay'athalon which has seen a team from the Dawnay Estates take on a series of challenges to raise funds for local charities.

Tonight they will be taking part in a swimming relay at the water park, aiming to swim the 21 miles it would take to cross the English Channel.

Louise Wilson says they want as many people as possible to turn up and take part in their final challenge.

A team from the Dawnay Estates have been completing a series of challenges as part of their fundraising Dawnay'athalon.

So far they have climbed the nations three peaks, Scafell Pike, Ben Nevis and Snowdon in just 24 hours. They also completed the 170 mile coast to coast cycle ride in just three days.

Tonight they will be taking on a 21 mile swimming challenge.

Katrina Shamel says they are hoping local people will join in with the relay swim.

Katrina says the event will start at 5pm with groups of swimmers setting off at half hour intervals.

Katrina says that anyone wanting to take part does need to pre-register.

"We will be running 4 time slots for groups to swim:  5pm 5:30pm 6pm 6:30pm  Ending with a BBQ, music and celebrations with an announcement of how much money has been raised for our wonderful charities.

TO ENTER:- Head to our Just Giving Page Donate £5 and comment with YOUR NAME & PREFERRED TIME SLOT (ie:- 5pm)

Wetsuits are available free of charge on the day if you would like to use one, however if you own a tow float please bring your own as numbers are limited for these.

Please note:- You MUST be pre registered to take part and CANNOT just turn up on the day to participate. "

Louise says the money raised from the three events is being split between three local charities, Get Max Moving, Scarborough Survivors and Community Counselling.

Louise says that so far the three peaks challenge has proved to be the most demanding of the challenges

The events have been supported by members of the Dawnay Estates team, Louise Wilson, David Steel, Hannah Wright, Katrina Shamel, Peter & Jake Shepherdson, Laura Carroll, Lyndsey Prior McKie, Derek Watson, Rania Shamel, Jon Purdy, Julie Wiles & Claire Spense will collectively be taking part in 1, 2 or all three of the challenges.

Louise says the cycling challenge saw one father and son team take part in a rather unusual way.

Katrina says they are hoping that tonight's swimming relay event will be able to take the fundraising to a new level.
