East Riding Council Seek Foster Parents Amid Crisis

A national crisis means over 9,000 extra foster families are needed in the next 12 months.

That's according to Councillor Victoria Aitken, East Riding Council's Portfolio Holder for Children and Young People’s Education, Health and Wellbeing.

Councillor Aitken says 15% of current carers are set to retire leaving a huge gap and in the case of the East Riding, using agencies is costing millions per year.

You don't need to own your own home to be a foster carer, nor do you have to do it for a set length of time and your gender is also not important.

There is upper age limit for foster carers (though you do need to be at least 21).

Councillor Aitken addressed East Riding Council on the desperate need for foster carers, here's what she had to say:
