HRH Prince Edward, The Duke of Kent, will represent the Royal Family at Saturday's National Armed Forces Day Event in Scarborough
Prince Edward will lead the dignitaries attending the event. The Queen's Cousin has held the title of Duke of Kent for nearly 80 years and carries out engagements on behalf of the Queen.
The Duke has been President of the Commonwealth War Graves Commission since 1970, an organisation that commemorates Commonwealth servicemen and women who died in the two world wars, and cares for memorials at 23,000 locations in 154 countries.
The Duke of Kent has also been President of the Royal National Lifeboat Institution (RNLI) since 1969.
The Duke will be joined by
- The Equerry to HRH, Capt Charles Longstaff SG,
- The Secretary of State for Defence, Rt Hon Ben Wallace MP,
- Chief of the Defence Staff, Adm Sir Tony Radakin KCB ADC
- The Lord Lieutenant of North Yorkshire, Mrs Johanna Ropner.
In previous years the Prime Minister has attended the national armed forces event on behalf of the Government, but he is not on the official guest list with Defence Secretary Ben Wallace MP being the most senior Government Minister to attend the event
