Dale Power Solutions was pleased to welcome Alison Hume MP, Labour Member of Parliament for Scarborough and Whitby, to its Scarborough headquarters and manufacturing facility this week.
The visit provided an opportunity to demonstrate Dale’s essential role in safeguarding national critical infrastructure and its ongoing commitment to high-value engineering, sustainable innovation, and long-term skilled employment on the Yorkshire coast.
During her visit, Alison shared her vision to position Scarborough at the heart of North Yorkshire’s emerging energy landscape—strengthening strategic links with Tees Valley, Hull, and the Humber to create a regional powerhouse for green growth and advanced engineering.
Alison was welcomed by Gavin Hepburn, Chief Executive of Dale Power Solutions, who introduced the company’s 90-year legacy as one of the region’s foremost engineering employers.

Gavin highlighted the company’s evolution from historic power generation expertise to a modern leader in critical power protection, energy storage, and low-carbon solutions.
Alison then toured the manufacturing site, meeting employees across production, testing, and engineering teams. The tour provided a first-hand view of the precision, expertise, and quality standards that underpin Dale’s reputation across the defence, healthcare, data centre, transport, and industrial sectors.
As one of Scarborough’s major and longest-standing employers, Dale Power Solutions continues to invest heavily in developing technical talent within the region. A standout example celebrated during the visit was Ian Ellmore, Technical Manager for UPS Technical Support, who recently marked 50 years with the business after joining as an apprentice draughtsman in 1975. His remarkable career reflects the company’s culture of long-term development and opportunity for local people.
Dale also shared insights into its thriving apprenticeship programme, which provides hands-on training across mechanical engineering, electrical engineering, assembly, testing, and field service. Apprentices gain a full understanding of the end-to-end production lifecycle, equipping them with practical skills that enhance both the company’s future workforce and the wider regional skills pipeline. Many apprentices go on to secure permanent roles within the business.

Sustainability formed a key part of the discussion. Dale showcased its progress in reducing waste, improving energy efficiency, and expanding its low-carbon technology portfolio—including solar generation, battery energy storage systems, and a growing plug-in hybrid electric vehicle fleet.
The company also celebrated its recent success at the AMPS Awards for Excellence 2025, where Dale won the Energy and Sustainability Award in recognition of its work supporting customers in transitioning to cleaner, more resilient power solutions.
The visit underscored the strength of Scarborough’s engineering sector and the vital role Dale Power Solutions plays in protecting national infrastructure, supporting local employment, and contributing to the UK’s transition toward sustainable energy.
Alison Hume MP commented on the visit:
“Thanks to Dale Power and other specialist engineering companies, Scarborough is a significant electrical engineering cluster and excels in the storage and delivery of electricity.
“It was fascinating to visit Dale Power’s headquarters and meet some of the talented and dedicated people who work there, as well as learn more about their innovative products. Dale Power is not only vitally important to the town, it is crucial for the entire country too, supporting a variety of critical industries and services.
“I was delighted to see how seriously Dale Power takes its responsibilities to the community, with most of its employees coming from the local area and knowledge being passed on to apprentices.
The government is committed to skills and training and has launched a new initiative to boost these.”
Gavin Hepburn, CEO of Dale Power Solutions said:
“We were delighted to host Alison Hume MP and share the scale of innovation and expertise taking place here in Scarborough. Her ambition to establish the region as a leading energy hub aligns closely with our own commitment to powering a cleaner, more resilient future.”
Dale Power Solutions extended its thanks to Alison Hume MP for taking the time to meet the team and engage with the company’s strategic priorities for the region.
