The number of new COVID cases in North Yorkshire looks to be reaching a plateau but hospitals remain under pressure and the new variant still poses a risk to the Scarborough Borough.
There are signs that the national lockdown is having an effect on the number of COVID cases in North Yorkshire.
While The number of cases being seen in hospitals remains high there are signs that it has reached a plateau with the number of new daily cases levelling off.
However health leaders say it's too soon to call it a downwards trend and there is still some daily fluctuation in the Scarborough Borough where the seven day infection rate increased slightly yesterday.
Richard Webb is North Yorkshire County Council's Director of Health and Adult Services, he says there are a number of factors at play in the Scarborough Borough.
Amanda Bloor from the NHS in North Yorkshire says even if the number of new cases is reaching a plateau it will take some time for that to result in fewer people in hospital.
