A new ban on overnight campervan parking in Scarborough is raising concerns that it will simply move the problem to other areas.
Councillor Rich Maw says that residents in the South Cliff area are now more concerned about the potential displacement of campervans than ever before:
The council says it is aware of the displacement issue and plans to monitor it during and after the experimental ban.
An 18 month trial will see restrictions introduced at Sandsend, Royal Albert Drive, and Cayton Bay from the end of November.
They acknowledge that they don't know how campervan users will react to the ban, whether they will move to other areas in Scarborough or leave the area altogether.
The council plans to use the experimental period to assess the situation and, if necessary, implement further bans in other locations.
Here's North Yorkshire Council's highways area manager Richard Marr:
Despite the bans, the council emphasizes that they still welcome motorhomes in the area and want visitors to enjoy the town.
