Community Partnership Event in Filey

Plans to create a community partnership in Filey are being highlighted at a drop in event tonight.

The partnership is being introduced to bring the town together and ensure that the ten year "vision for Filey" strategy is delivered.

It's set to be overseen by an executive board consisting of residents and elected representatives.

Filey councillor Sam Cross hopes that members of the public will get involved with the partnership.

Scarborough Borough Council set aside £1m for Filey when it wasn’t selected to be part of the government’s Towns Fund initiative which awarded £37.5m to Scarborough and Whitby in 2021.

Ongoing regeneration in Filey was proposed through a two-stage approach of public realm capital works through the council’s Project Sunshine Programme and the new "Vision for Filey" scheme.

The vision aims to create a “people-focused town centre” and to connect the edge of Filey and the centre.

The idea is that it is lead by a Community Partnership encompassing local people along with representatives from the Town Council and North Yorkshire Council.

The team who are creating the community partnership in Filey are holding another drop in session tonight, for the local people to attend.

The sessions give members of the community a chance to meet up and have a bigger say in how Filey moves forward.

Borough Council Officer - Zoe Kelsall - says that the first session was a huge success

Residents would be appointed to the Community Partnership committee through “an independent selection process” involving submissions of interest and consideration by an independent panel.

Tonight's event is at the Evron Centre from 6pm-8pm
