Christmas Projector Challenge For Bridlington Residents

For this year’s Christmas lights in the town, Bridlington Council say they want residents to help celebrate what makes Bridlington special.

As part of the Light Up Brid campaign, they say send drawings of what you love about Bridlington and they'll turn some of them into special light projections for the Christmas lights switch-on event and show them over the festive period.

Not sure where to start?
You could think about things like:

  • The heritage and history of the town – the harbour, the old town, people
  • The wildlife – birds, sealife, plants
  • The coastline and beach
  • And not forgetting Christmas of course!

If you need some drawing tips:

The Big Draw on YouTube have some videos about how to draw some Christmas animals and winter landscapes

BBC Bitesize has some ideas about how to do observational drawing of birds

You can also come along to a FREE drawing workshop at the Town Council offices on Saturday 27 September 10am-12 noon with artist Julie Oxenforth – book a place via eventbrite 1-3pm with artist Nic Draper – book a place via eventbrite

All materials will be provided.

You must book a place via eventbrite or call Bridlington Council on 01262 409006, email project@bridlington.gov.uk.

Here's the town's Mayor Councillor Angela Walker:

"This year it's a bit different. We're going to light up parts of down in the town. So what? It's a projector that will produce images that we're hoping that local people are going to do for themselves.

"We want them to come to the council offices. You can either choose the heritage and history of the town, the old town or wildlife birds are wonderful seagulls, uh, the coast and the beach, and of course not for Christmas, which obviously we want the theme to be around."

How to submit your artwork

All artwork must be drawn on the special submission sheet, which you can download here (this is an A4 version but you can enlarge it to A3).

You can also pick up A4 and A3 sizes from the Town Council Offices.

You can send your artwork to Bridlington Town Council, 2A Marshall Avenue, Bridlington YO15 2DS.

You can post it or drop it into the office, which is open Monday to Friday 9am-2.30pm.

Or you can send a scan or a clear photograph of it to project@bridlington.gov.uk

Your artwork must reach the council by 12 noon on Monday 29 September 2025.

The Mayor issued the following challenge:

"Show your talents and then we'll judge them and decide who you're gonna have displayed.

"The project is over Christmas, we do want as many people as possible to come and get involved because we do have some lovely, talented people and some lovely artists, but we also have some people that I know would love to have a go at something."
