Politicians and executives have all called for more backing from David Skaith to move forward attempts to further dual the A64 between Scarborough and York.
Kevin Hollinrake is the chairman of the Conservative Party and local MP for Thirsk, Malton and Filey:
"I know there was a motion, I think, from the council about urging local MPs to support the dualling A64. I don't need any urging for anybody. Thank you very much. I've always been very keen to see we had dualling the A64. We do need, given it's a Labour government and the way politics works, we need every Labour elected member, whether it be a member of Parliament or a councillor or indeed the elected mayor, to really put their shoulders to the wheel in terms of supporting dualling the A 64. Again, it's something I criticise my own government for not pushing ahead with, and there shouldn't be any. I think if you honestly believe those things, dualling is important for the local economy in Thirsk, Malton, and I very much do in the wider North Yorkshire region, then that's something we should all be willing to push and support."
North Yorkshire Council's Executive Member for Highways and Transportation is Malcolm Taylor.
He's sceptical about whether Mayor David Skaith is fully behind the project:
" I do push on the A64. What does concern me is that I don't think we have the support of the mayor on that. Yeah. And the reason I say that is because he goes on about trying to get half hour trains from to the coast, and I think that the bit that he doesn't get in a rural geography of North Yorkshire is that car will always have a role to play.
"The trains will not get people to work on time."
The A64 dualling project aims to upgrade the key York to Scarborough route into a full dual carriageway to ease severe congestion.
However it faces challenges with "high cost, low value for money" assessments.
Mr Hollinrake again took aim at Labour in his closing comments on the matter:
"That's why the support of the mayor is really important and the support of every Labour member of Parliament in the region. And that's not been forthcoming, to be honest. And we can't, I can't dress that up in any other way. Nor should we, we should press upon our every elected politician in the region to support that and to put pressure on the government to deliver on it."
