Yorkshire Coast football clubs are gearing up for the new campaign with ground improvements, volunteer appeals, and squad changes already underway.
The competitive football season may have drawn to a close for our local clubs across the Yorkshire Coast, but the off-season schedule remains packed. Executives and staff at both Scarborough Athletic and Whitby Town are currently navigating an intense period of preparation to ensure everything is ready for the next campaign.
At Whitby Town, the roster is already seeing adjustments. Officials announced this week that their highly regarded and long-serving goalkeeper, Shane Bland, has left the club. Supporters eager to see the newly shaped squad will not have to wait long. The team's first pre-season friendly fixture is set to take place on the fourth of July, with the squad travelling to take on Marske United.
Further down the coast, Scarborough Athletic is experiencing a similarly demanding summer. The club's leadership is currently organising a variety of community events and stadium improvements. As the clock ticks down to the start of pre-season training, the focus is heavily shifted towards facility upgrades and engaging with the fanbase.
Scarborough Athletic club chairman Trevor Bull said:
"Over the summer, we've got a lot of work to do for us to get the ground ready. So we'll be looking for a group of volunteers to come down and help out where they can. We've got a lot of events, we've got kit launches, home and away, we've got cricket match down at North Marine Road. So there's lots to look forward to."
Beyond the social events and kit reveals, the primary objective for Scarborough Athletic has been the completion of their stadium infrastructure. The installation of the new pitch has been a major talking point, and the club's administration is thrilled with the progress made by the groundwork teams. Securing their home venue for the upcoming fixtures, after a year in Bridlington, has been described as a monumental milestone for the club, as Trevor confirmed:
"Summer for football clubs is an incredibly busy time. We've got two months before pre-season starts, so that'll go very quickly. We've got an awful lot to do down here at the ground. Now looking round, there's a lot of work to get this place ready for next season. Great news, the pitch is nearly there. The groundworks are almost complete and within the next few weeks the top surface will be going down, so that's great. It's absolutely nailed on certain that we are coming home, which is a massive achievement."
