Bridlington Town Need to Build Momentum as they Host Ossett United

Bridlington Town will host Ossett United today in a rearranged fixture.

Town manager Mike Thompson has emphasised the importance of building momentum now after his side’s inconsistent start to the season.

After picking up a 1-0 win at home against Grimsby Borough last time out, Thompson will be looking to back that up with another three points. The victory saw Bridlington move up to sixth with eight points in their first five matches.

The Seasiders victory came thanks to Lewis Dennison’s 90th minute winner. The striker, who switched position this season after operating at left wing-back last campaign, has adapted well to the new role as he now joins Ali Aydemir as the club’s top scorer so far this season with four goals.

The hosts announced the signing of Danny Clarke on Monday, who joins the club on dual registration from North Ferriby and made his debut for the club against Grimsby Borough. The 37 year-old midfielder will bring a wealth of experience to the dressing room, having played a lot of his career in the National League and National League North. With Jack Griffin returning from his three-match suspension, and Will Tayor returning to availability, the home side should be back to full strength.

Whilst Ossett won their first two competitive games 2-0 against New Mills in the FA Cup and Carlton Town in the league, respectively, it hasn’t been the best of starts for them. They then only picked up one draw in their next five matches, losing the other four. This included an FA Cup exit against Whitchurch Alport in the Preliminary Round. Their last match ended in a 3-1 defeat at Pontefract Collieries, in which Luke Aldrich netted his fourth goal of the season to ensure he remained top of Ossett’s goal scorer chart. It also means he is the second highest scorer in the Northern Premier League East Division, along with another four players including Aydemir.

The game between the two sides at Ossett last season ended in a 0-0 draw, though entertainment was provided through two red cards. Andy Norfolk received his second yellow card for Bridlington and Declan McGivern was dismissed for Ossett. In the reverse outing, Bridlington came out 2-0 winners thanks to a goal in either half from Dennison and former player-manager Brett Agnew.
