Bridlington Nursery Teacher Takes On Yorkshire Three Peaks For Sensory Room

A teacher from Bridlington Nursery School is preparing to tackle the gruelling Yorkshire Three Peaks Challenge to raise vital funds for a new sensory room.

A dedicated staff member from Bridlington is preparing to take on the ultimate test of endurance this September to support early years education on the Yorkshire Coast.

Mrs. Fernandez, who is part of the team at Bridlington Nursery School, is currently lacing up her hiking boots and training to tackle the gruelling Yorkshire Three Peaks Challenge.

The demanding trek will see her attempt to conquer the summits of Pen-y-Ghent, Whernside, and Ingleborough, with the goal of completing the entire route within a strict twelve-hour window.

In total, the challenge covers a distance of twenty-four miles and involves an immense ascent of over five thousand feet.

Mrs. Fernandez is undertaking this massive physical endeavour for one specific reason: to raise vital funds to build and enhance the sensory provision at Bridlington Nursery School.

The educational setting believes that every child deserves an environment where they feel completely safe, calm, and ready to learn, noting that the primary goal of the fundraiser is to enhance wellbeing and outcomes for all children.

A spokesperson for Bridlington Nursery School highlighted the importance of the project, explaining why the facility is so necessary for their young pupils. They said:

"For many of our pupils, the world can sometimes feel overwhelming. A dedicated sensory room is not just a 'luxury'—it is a fundamental tool that helps children regulate their emotions, develop motor skills, and engage with the world on their own terms."

The proposed sensory room is described as a specially designed and dedicated space that will combine a wide range of stimuli to help children develop their sensory processing abilities.

To promote calm and regulation, the room will feature soft lighting, bubble tubes, and fibre optics. The school says these elements are specifically chosen to provide a soothing environment for children who may feel over-stimulated or anxious during the school day.

The room will also offer vital opportunities for sensory exploration. The inclusion of tactile panels and textured surfaces will allow young learners to explore different physical sensations in a safe and highly controlled manner.

The facility is also set to promote interactive learning by utilising modern technology, including interactive floor projections and sound-sensitive lights.

The nursery notes that these interactive features are designed to encourage physical movement, help children understand cause-and-effect recognition, and foster positive social interaction among peers.

While the sensory space is considered an absolutely essential resource for children with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities, the nursery emphasises that it will champion inclusive education by benefiting the entire student body.

According to the school, the room will provide a much-needed reset space for any pupil who requires it, helping to improve their focus and overall wellbeing throughout the busy school day.

Bridlington Nursery School is encouraging the local community to support Mrs. Fernandez's upcoming September trek, noting the direct and lasting impact the donations will have on the children. They said:

"Every penny raised goes directly toward purchasing high-quality sensory equipment that will last for years to come. Whether it’s the cost of a weighted blanket or a contribution toward a bubble tube, your generosity makes a massive difference."
