Bridlington Town will look to bounce back from Saturday's defeat when they host Grimsby Borough, on Monday.
The visitors are new to the division having won the Northern Counties East Premier League last campaign. They ended the season on 88 points, nine points clear of second placed Eccleshill United, having won 27 matches, drawn seven and lost four. Despite this, life in their new league couldn’t have started much worse. They have lost all four of their league games, the most recent being a 5-3 defeat at home against Brighouse Town, meaning they are the only team in the league not to pick up a point. They also crashed out of the FA Cup in the Extra Preliminary Round at the hands of Lincoln United, and have therefore been defeated in all five of their opening competitive fixtures.
Grimsby’s poor start may not prove to be a good thing for the hosts, as they played Shildon on Saturday, who before the game joined Grimsby Borough as the only team in the division not to pick up a point. Despite this, Shildon came out dominant 6-0 winners to continue Bridlington’s inconsistency which is worrying manager Mike Thompson. He has admitted his team have a habit of showing brilliant battling performances, specifically in their 3-1 win against Lincoln United and 2-2 draw against Worksop Town, but follow them up with disappointing displays, as shown in their 3-0 FA defeat to Dunston and 6-0 loss against Shildon. Saturday’s defeat saw Bridlington drop from 5th to 9th.
Amongst Grimsby’s scorers in their most recent game was Luis Adlard, who will be familiar to the Seasiders faithful, as he joined the side on loan from Grimsby Town last season between December and March. Midfielder Tom Charlesworth also scored against Brighouse, five minutes after entering the pitch, to net his second goal of the season and thus put him top of Grimsby’s top goal scorer chart.
Whilst Grimsby will be looking to end their losing streak, if Bridlington continue their pattern of following up a bad game with a good game, it will end with a positive result for the home side.
