Fines of £800 are to be introduce on the Yorkshire Coast next week for anyone attending a house party of more than 15 people.
House parties have been a particular issue in the Scarborough borough with Police issuing 80 fines to people breaching the indoor gathering rules in the borough since the start of the third lockdown.
That accounts for 64% of all indoor gathering fines issued in North Yorkshire.
The fines will double for each subsequent offence up to a maximum of £6,400.
The home secretary has announced that the fines will come into force across England next week. Their introduction has been welcomed by Martin Hewitt, who chairs the National Police Chiefs' Council.
North Yorkshire Police say they have issued 241 Fixed Penalty Notices in relation to COVID rule breaches since the begging of the third lockdown on January 6th. 125 of those were for breaches of the indoor gathering rules and of those 125, 80 were issued in the Scarborough Borough.
