A new resource for health and recreation has been unveiled near Scarborough, as Seamer Parish Council launches an eight-piece trim trail for residents of all ages.
The facility, designed for young people and adults, aims to enhance the physical and mental wellbeing of the community.
The Parish Council confirmed they are "thrilled" to launch the new trail, which stretches along Centurion Way and the footpaths connecting to Long Lane and towards Crab Lane, Crossgates.
Councillor Lynda Wallis, Chairman of Seamer Parish Council, expressed enthusiasm for the project, stating:
“This trim trail is an exciting addition to our offer for the fun, challenge, physical & mental health and wellbeing of our young people and adults”.
The equipment itself is described as high quality and mainly constructed from timber. It is strategically placed next to or between lighting columns along the footpaths, ensuring accessibility, as the lights remain active from dusk until midnight and are switched back on at 5 am.
Vision and Funding
The ambitious project was fully financed by a £40,000 allocation of Section 106 Commuted Sums. This funding mechanism is designated for improvements to public open space and sports facilities and was secured via North Yorkshire Council, acting as the Planning Authority. The funds originated from the Linden Limited's Northfield Meadows development.
North Yorkshire Councillor Heather Phillips of Seamer Division, who is also the Executive Member for Corporate Services, praised the local leadership involved in bringing the project to fruition. Councillor Phillips noted:
“This is an example of Seamer Parish Council having the vision to lead this project, working with our specialist teams across North Yorkshire Council to deliver a fantastic, new, free facility for this community.”.
The Council thanked both their partner, North Yorkshire Council, and their provider, Wicksteed Leisure Ltd, for their roles in delivering the new facility.
Challenge and Variety
The eight-piece trail provides a variety of fitness and agility challenges for users. The equipment is sited in eco mulch safety surfacing and includes:
- Roll Over Bars
- Sit Up Beams
- Balance Weaver
- Parallel Bars
- Low Hurdles
- Leap Frogs
- Monkey Bars
- Scramble Net Log Climber

This new installation complements the Council’s existing recreational provision, which includes children’s playgrounds and outdoor gyms for young people and adults. Among the current facilities are a playground for toddlers and juniors at The Green Park, Seamer, and an outdoor gym and junior playground at the Recreation Ground, Seamer.
