An 11-bed hotel in Scarborough could be converted into an Airbnb if plans are approved.
The plan submitted to North Yorkshire Council proposes converting the Lonsdale Villa, in Lonsdale Road in Scarborough.
The three-storey property is located to the south side of West Street at its junction with Lonsdale Road, and is currently in use as a hotel, with the manager’s accommodation on the upper floor.
The application states:
“This application seeks planning permission for the use of the building for Airbnb purposes.
“The current hotel provides a total of 11 bedrooms over three floors, and as proposed, the use will accommodate 11 bedrooms for independent letting purposes,”
The current communal areas, including sitting and dining rooms, would remain for future occupants to use.
The kitchen area would be made available for the guests to share, and “in lieu of the manager’s accommodation, additional communal space is being provided”.
Submitted proposals state that the conversion would “serve the same need, but in a different way”.
The hotel has on-site car parking provision and currently “relies upon on-street parking, where necessary or travel by other sustainable means”.
North Yorkshire Council has not set a date for deciding on the applications, which is open to representations.
