Yorkshire Water has announced the creation of a new dedicated bathing water quality team, with a particular emphasis on beaches in and around Scarborough.
A new dedicated bathing water quality team has been established by Yorkshire Water to focus on the Yorkshire Coast, with a particular emphasis on the Scarborough area.
The initiative, which was officially created last year, aims to address public concerns and improve transparency regarding the quality of bathing waters in the region.
Miles Cameron, who leads the new team for Yorkshire Water, has revealed details about the group's composition and its primary objectives for the local coastline.
The team is comprised of eight dedicated resources, bringing together a variety of specialists to tackle water quality issues across the county's coastal locations:
"We created a bathing water team. So last year, um, and I lead that team. Uh, and yeah, it has eight resources behind it. But the important thing is that absolutely our focus is the 21 bathing beaches we've got across Yorkshire, but in particular Scarborough. So a lot of focus of my team, a mixture of experts, scientists and managers, and experts who can support and help drive those investigation workings part of the partnership."
The creation of this specialist group is intended to foster better relationships with local communities and provide clear, factual information about the state of the region's bathing waters.
Yorkshire Water hopes that the deployment of experts, scientists, and managers will help drive forward necessary investigations and collaborative partnership working.
The team will be actively visible in the Scarborough area, working directly with residents and local stakeholders to address any concerns over the coming days, weeks, months, and years.
Improving transparency for those who crave it is a key goal for the water company, alongside dispelling myths surrounding the local bathing waters.
Mr Cameron added:
"So I'm really proud of the team, and I'm hoping over the coming days, weeks, months, years you will get to meet them. They're an integral part and this is about breaking down some of those myths or at least improving on the transparency I know many of you really crave. So, I'm really pleased about that, but I wanted to just highlight that we have now got a dedicated team who will be out working in communities going forward."
The heavy focus on Scarborough highlights the importance of the town's bathing waters to both Yorkshire Water and the local community.
With twenty-one bathing beaches spread across Yorkshire, the dedication of specific, expert resources to Scarborough underscores a targeted approach to environmental management on the Yorkshire Coast.
The team's presence in the community is expected to be an integral part of Yorkshire Water's ongoing strategy to manage and monitor bathing water quality effectively.
