It was a busy programme of cricket on the Yorkshire Coast on Saturday, with some quick runs at Flixton and Brid march on at Beverley.
Bridlington stay top of the York & District Division One East despite being frustrated by Beverley Town's last-wicket pair.
After being invited to bat first by their hosts, Brid slipped from 44/1 to 79/6. However, a 61-run partnership between half-century-makers Richard Robinson (56) and Simon Leeson (50) saw the visitors reach 203 before being bowled out in the 50th and final over of their innings. The Bridlington bowlers then took over, reducing their opponents to 38/3 and 145/8, but Town clung on, finishing 152/9 as Brid claimed a winning draw.
Folkton and Flixton went one better, in the York & District Premier, returning to winning ways thanks to a powerful end to their innings against Whitkirk. Batting first, a number of steady stands, with opener Richard Malthouse making 42, saw Folkton and Flixton well-set on 162/4, with 10 overs left. However, they wouldn't have expected the carnage to follow as Harry Walmsley smashed 61 not out, including three sixes and Will Norman bludgeoned five maximums in his 51, with the hosts adding 104 from the 40th over to post an imposing 266/7. The bowlers worked well in partnership with Connor Stephenson setting the tone with 3 for 47. There were also wickets for Walmsley, Malthouse, Elliot Hatton and Tom Norman as Whitkirk were skittled for 219, with four overs still remaining and the run rate required in double figures.
Scarborough were in action against Woodhouse Grange in Yorkshire Premier North. Pat Roberts' first-team side had suffered a number of postponements to their league programme recently and perhaps that contributed to a slow start as they struggled to 92/7 after choosing to bat first. Ben Elvidge (54) and the returning Jack Holt (38) put on 83 to stem the tide as Boro posted 175/9 from their 50 overs. Grange were then put under immense pressure, falling to 9/3 in reply as Elvidge and Linden Gray took early wickets. However, they recovered despite Cian Dickinson's double to put on an unbroken century partnership for the sixth wicket, getting home with nearly ten overs to spare.
Whitby were at Bishop Auckland, hoping to bounce back from defeat against Wolviston, last week, in North Yorkshire South Durham Division One. However, they too suffered a poor start to their innings, stumbling to 16/2 before Fin Morris and Kieran Howard put on 73 for the third wicket. Another slip then saw Kai Morris' men floundering at 91/5, before Andrew Wood and the in-form Paul Buck (59) put on 90 as Whitby eventually made 187/9 in 50 overs. Corey Hart then led superbly with the ball, giving Whitby a chance, with three wickets, as Bishops found themselves 71/4. Ricky Hall also weighed in as the home side slipped from 60/1, but there was no stopping former professional Nathan Rimmington (62*) and Ian Grainger (50*) as they took the County Durham side home, by six wickets, with more than five overs remaining.
