A major study in to the poor bathing water quality at Scarborough South Bay will take place next summer.
The Environment Agency investigation is being supported by Yorkshire Water and there will also be a water sampling project lead by Durham University.
Faye Cossins from Yorkshire Water says there are a number of organisations working together on the problem.
Yorkshire Water says it will be contributing to help fund the intensive Environment Agency investigation throughout the Summer of 2024 to identify potential influences on poor water quality.
Scarborough Councillor Rich Maw has welcomed the commitment but questioned the level of investment.
Yorkshire Water say the exact amounts of funding required are not yet firmed up as a number of other funding partners are involved including McCains.
Faye Cossins from Yorkshire Water says the company is committed to the study and ensuring all areas of study are delivered.
