Three Yorkshire Coast Beaches Lose Excellent Water Quality Rating

Three of Yorkshire's beaches have lost their excellent water quality rating in the latest data.

Runswick Bay, Reighton and Scarborough North Bay will all now be classified as good for the 2024 season.

Scarborough South Bay remains poor as does Bridlington South Beach despite it recording excellent individual samples this year.

Faye Cossins is coastal delivery and engagement manager at Yorkshire Water.

At a meeting on Friday, Yorkshire Water told local councillors it will be supporting an Environment Agency study in to water quality in Scarborough next summer.

Scarborough Councillor Rich Maw says the long term issues in Scarborough need sorting out.

Cayton Bay, Sandsend and Whitby retain their "Excellent" ratings.
