Bob Thomson was the oldest finisher of the McCain Yorkshire Coast 10k on Sunday.
89 year old Bob was the oldest of the 1,689 runners to complete this years Yorkshire Coast 10k on Sunday with a time of 1:35:27 and was one of 5 runners over the age of 80 to complete the course.
As the oldest finisher Bob was presented with prize money by the Chairman of Scarborough Athletic Club, David Field, but Bob asked for the money to be given to a local care home.
David said:
"I caught up with him to present him with not an insignificant cheque as the oldest finisher.
This was sponsored by Mike Padgham , Aaron Padgham and St Cecilia's Care Homes.
Bob would not accept his prize and asked me to present it back to the Care Home so they could buy some treats with it for the residents, he joked with me that one day he may well be a resident himself.
All I can say is massive thanks for his thought for others rather than himself."
Adam Theaker from Loftus & Whitby Athletics Club was the first runner back on Sunday with a time of 0:33:34. Scarborough Athletic Club's Jackson Smith was hot on his heals in second place with a time of 0:33:49.
Claire Cooney from Lincoln Wellington Athletic Club was the first woman over the line in 0:38:12 with Scarborough Athletic Club's Rhona Marshall a close second in 0:38:31.
