Wins For Whitby and Scarborough But Shock Defeat for Villagers

Whitby and Scarborough's cricketers continued their winning ways but it wasn't all good news elsewhere.

Scarborough's openers set the tone after they batted first at Yorkshire Premier North rivals York. Oliver Stephenson (82) and Duncan Brown (81) put on 115 for the first wicket. Joe Davies added an unbeaten 25 as plenty of batsmen got starts but couldn't go on- Boro finished on 251 for 8 from their 50 overs.

York begun their reply strongly, adding 61 for the first wicket. However, they slipped from 144/5 to 169 all out as Piet Rinke, Guy Emmett, Jack Holt and James Wainman took two wickets each. The 82-run victory takes Pat Roberts' men back up to third in the division.

Whitby continue their winning run in North Yorkshire South Durham Division One. Kai Morris' men were missing some key players but you wouldn't have known it as they chose to field first and took regular wickets. Only three bowlers were needed as hosts Wolviston were skittled inside 25 overs, for just 77. Fin Morris took 5 for 20, with the recalled Kobie Boocock picking up 3/24 and Tom Steyert 2/26. Whitby's reply stuttered to 15/2, but Morris showed his worth with the bat, steering his side home, with 39 not out from 32 balls. Whitby stay fifth thanks to the seven-wicket win.

It was a less happy story for Folkton and Flixton as they failed in their bid to return to the top of the York & District Premier. Visitors Welton had already beaten the villagers this season but looked unlikely to repeat the feat as they slumped to 116/7. Elliot Hatton took 3 for 49, with Jamie Nesfield grabbing 2/49 and Harry Walmsley 2/26, but the away side somehow put on a century stand for the eighth wicket. When the smoke cleared, Welton finished on an imposing 250/8 from their 50 overs.

Despite Walmsley's 50 and skipper Tom Norman contributing 33, Folkton and Flixton were always struggling and were eventually bowled out for 179. They drop to third, behind Sessay and Beverley, following the 71-run defeat.

Bridlington were unable to regain top spot in Division One East, through no fault of their own. Heavy rain washed out their trip to North Marine Road, to face Scarborough Seconds. Brid now sit fourth with their promotion hopes now in jeopardy.
