There needs to be better public transport provision in Whitby according to local councillors.
That's the call from the town's councillors, who have been asked for their views on a new local transport plan.
North Yorkshire Council held a briefing on the developing plan.
Whitby councillor, Neil Swannick, says Whitby's representatives were clear that current situation can't continue.
Councillor Swannick says the town's public transport provision is "appalling".
He says the resort needs better bus and train services.
Neil Swannick says the town's councillors put their views forward at the North Yorkshire Council briefing on a new transport plan for the county.
A public consultation on the transport plan closed in July.
North Yorkshire Council says that
"the Local Transport Plan is a requirement of the Government and will be based on Ministers’ objectives for transport while reflecting local ideas and issues. It will link closely to the council’s wider strategies to support local economic growth and sustainable development."
Speaking during the public consultation period earlier this year North Yorkshire's Executive member for highways and transportation, Cllr Keane Duncan said:
“We know North Yorkshire faces specific challenges given its size, rurality and diversity. It is very different to cities like London and Manchester, but residents and businesses nonetheless deserve good, affordable transport links with infrastructure that is fit for purpose.
“The creation of the new council and the prospect of the newly elected mayor as part of the devolution deal currently under consideration by the Government creates the ideal opportunity to revise our Local Transport Plan, ensuring it can meet the challenges we face now and in the years ahead.”
