Whitby Town in Trophy Challenge

The Blues enter the FA Trophy on Saturday, at the Towbar Express Stadium.

Even though we're now into October, it's just the club's second Saturday home game of the season.

Player-boss Gary Liddle was buoyed by his side's 0-0 draw with Prescot, on Tuesday, after a run of three straight defeats.

He spoke to Whitby Town TV and said the competition is important:

"Definitely, especially with being out of the FA Cup, these are all important competitions for, not only Whitby Town, but every non-league club. And, we were disappointed to go out of the FA Cup. Of course we were, but the FA Trophy gives us another opportunity to have a break from the league, which, is it a good thing, is it a bad thing?

"I don't know. But we will go into it and I'll pick a strong team. I'll see who's fit. I'll see who's raring to go. And hopefully, touch wood, I don't think there's any knocks or niggles. There'll be a few bumps and bruises, but as far as I know, everyone who played tonight and was available tonight we'll be available for the weekend."

Midfielder Adam Gell was Town's man of the match on Tuesday, he told Whitby Town TV a return to winning ways is crucial:

" Yeah we need to give the fans something to shout about and another run in a cup. So we need to really knuckle in and say give the minimum of what we've given them tonight. Work, work as hard as we can. And like I say, if that first goal goes in I think we can really build on it from there.

"So it, it'd be nice to have a good run in that competition, as you said, after the disappointment at exiting the FA Cup."
