A battling performance in ice-cold conditions under the lights saw Whitby take a point against a team who would have been two points clear at the top with a win.
Both teams had chances in the first half and Whitby nearly scored an own-goal but a great reactive save from Shane Bland kept the ball out.
Connor Simpson headed wide for the home side but it was Hyde who opened the scoring through Jack Redshaw on 40 minutes.
Jake Day went close before half time but it was 0-1 at the break.
Day, Connor Simpson and Brad Fewster all had chances early in the 2nd half.
Whitby got their reward with an equaliser in the last 10 minutes through Dan Rowe following great build-up play from Harry Green.
The home side nearly snatched the winner in stoppage time.
